The Impact
2023 has been full of celebration and growth at Texas Gulf Coast, from January to October we have provided the following, and more:
- 1546 nights of safe sleep under the roof of the Texas Gulf Coast program home. This opportunity for safe haven becomes a critical first step toward restoring their sense of autonomy and self-worth.
- Texas Gulf Coast has facilitated 240 hours of specialized counseling so that the women we serve can process through and begin healing from the complex trauma they have experienced while being trafficked.
- 181 Medical appointments. These appointments range from much-needed dental procedures to long-overdue checkups and behavioral health consultations.
In August of this year, we celebrated as our first resident graduated from our long-term program. This amazing graduate has continued with us in our newly launched Transitional Living program.

The need
$600,000 is needed to operate our program on a yearly basis. This budget provides a comfortable home-like environment for our residents with 24-hour staffing and trauma-informed care. The program is given to our residents at no cost to them. Our organization is completely funded through donations. We need your help to be a place of hope Until All Are Free.
The Issue
Sex Trafficking and exploitation is a multi-billion dollar criminal industry where human beings are manipulated or physically forced into providing commercial sex.
According to information posted on The National Human Trafficking Hotline/Polaris site, “Human trafficking is the business of stealing freedom for profit.“
It can be very difficult for someone to independently leave their exploitive situation. Through a combination of psychological manipulation, intimidation, rape, beatings, food/sleep deprivation, isolation, and/or threats to self or one’s family, a victim’s resistance is broken down, and compliance is assured.
According to the Safe House Project, “Without specialized, safe programs, more than 80% of women who are rescued or who leave the sex industry will return to the violent chaos of the sex trade.”
The Solution
Refuge for Women Texas Gulf Coast offers up to two years of faith-based, residential programming at no charge to the residents. Residents progress through nationally recognized, evidence-based, trauma-informed programming with around-the-clock staffing. The trained, compassionate staff support residents as they work to reclaim their identities and reach their goals: overcoming addictions, healing from trauma, developing life skills, establishing support networks, living with healthy rhythms of life, and attaining financial independence.
