The Refuge for Women Story

God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary purposes.

What if you built it, but no one came?

Refuge for Women opened its doors in June 2010. Without much concept of a staffing model, the original team was composed of a program director, a house mom who stayed in the home at night, and an office administrator.

Each of them had their own story of being led out of a comfortable job to come serve with Refuge.

There was no training, clinical or otherwise, of any kind. The vision was discipleship, prayer, and "life on life," as Ked recalled it. With the staff assembled, a beautifully decorated home, and hearts filled with anticipation, Ked waited.

For the first six weeks, no one came.
