The women who walk through our doors often carry heavy burdens, yet we’ve already seen such incredible resilience. With your support, 65% of our residents have successfully moved on to safe places where they can continue building stability.
When we first opened our Emergency House in March, we wanted to start conservatively to get our sea legs and accepted just five residents. We knew the need was great, but we were still amazed when hundreds of applications poured in from women seeking safety and a fresh start.
The women who walk through our doors often carry heavy burdens, yet we’ve already seen such incredible resilience. With your support, 65% of our residents have successfully moved on to safe places where they can continue building stability. Some remain within the Refuge for Women community, while others have been connected with partner organizations that are the best fit for their needs.
One story that stands out is from Candyce*, a recent resident. She went to court fearing she might face jail time. Instead, because of the progress she made while in our program, the judge offered her probation and the opportunity to keep her record free of a felony conviction. He specifically noted that her involvement in Refuge made a tremendous difference in her case. Andi, our Assistant Program Director, was right there in the courtroom with her, reminding Candyce* that she wasn’t walking this journey alone.
These are the kinds of life-changing moments your partnership makes possible. And we’re just getting started. After the first of the year, we are thrilled to be expanding the Emergency House with five more beds, doubling the number of women we can welcome into safety, hope, and healing.
Thank you for standing with us in this vital work.
